Here are some answers to frequently asked questions. If you have other questions, please don’t hesitate to send them to me at DrMarciaJMcKinley@gmail.com. If enough people ask the same question, it will probably end up on here soon!
Q: What are your rates?
A: My rates vary between $120 and $180, depending on the service.
Q: Do you participate with insurance companies?
A: I do! I am an in-network practitioner with Cigna, Carefirst, Magellan, and Blue Cross/Blue Shield Federal Employee Plan. When you call to make an appointment, I will ask for your insurance information to ensure that your insurance will cover my services. If you have any other type of insurance, I can provide you with a receipt for my services which you can submit for out-of-network reimbursement.
Q: Can I check with my insurance company to see what they will reimburse for out-of-network providers?
A: Please do! Ask what the company will reimburse you for the following CPT (procedure) codes:
* 90791 (psychiatric evaluation)
* 90832 (16-37 minutes of psychotherapy with the client)
* 90834 (38-52 minutes of psychotherapy with the client)
* 90837 (53+ of psychotherapy with the client)
* 90846 (family psychotherapy, without the client present)
* 90847 (family psychotherapy, without the client present).
Q: Will the insurance company ask me any questions about you, as the provider?
A: They might. If so, please provide them with the following information:
* Maryland Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor #LC5264
* Virginia Licensed Professional Counselor #0701007349
Q: Is insurance reimbursement provided for coaching services?
A: No. Coaching is not covered by insurance so if you choose to see me for coaching in either location, I will not provide you with a bill that has therapeutic codes on it.
Q: Why might I want coaching versus therapy?
A: Coaching tends to be a more time-limited process in which the focus is on providing concrete solutions to help you better reach your goals. Much of my coaching revolves around academic issues, ADHD, or other executive functioning issues. Given the clients who are drawn to working with me, coaching often has a psychoeducational component, in which I am helping individuals better manage their space or workflow or to help them explore their career options. Other clients prefer not to have a diagnosis associated with their name; diagnoses are necessary in order to obtain insurance reimbursement.
Q: I notice that you have training in neurofeedback. Do you provide that service in Gaithersburg?
A: Although I had wonderful training in neurofeedback, I do not provide neurofeedback myself. In Herndon, I frequently refer clients to BiofeedbackWORKS in Virginia (which is the same suite of offices as mine). I also have referrals for biofeedback and neurofeedback in Montgomery County should you be interested in those services.
